The Website and Booking Process
The website of Car One Rental is clearly structured, which is perfect for getting an overview of all the vehicles available. All prices are transparently listed, but keep in mind that local taxes apply. You can book directly through the website, or alternatively request a quote.
The Pick-up
We picked up our vehicle directly at Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport. This is by far the most convenient option as you’ll only have to walk a few meters from the arrivals hall to arrive at the rental desk.
The Instructions
The entire process of getting to know the car, checking for damages, and reading through the paperwork took roughly 45 minutes.

The Car
We picked a Toyota 4 Runner 4x4. This car is very capable as a 4x4, which is highly important during the rainy season. All of Belize’s main highways are tarred, but as soon as you want to explore some of the lesser-known sights, a 4x4 comes in very handy. This is mostly due to their higher ground clearance, not necessarily their off-road capability. However, after a heavy downpour, some of the smaller trails will become properly muddy. In that instance, a 4x4 is absolutely necessary.
The car was far from new but in very good condition. The air con was working perfectly, and even the seats were cooled. The car was spacious and would also work for a family of 4.
Communications during the Trip
Similar to the booking process, most of the communication runs through WhatsApp. Car One Rental was always quick to answer.

Our trip
We traveled around Belize for a total of three weeks, driving 2.100 km. If you would like to learn more about our trip, make sure to watch our Belize Travel Documentary on YouTube.
The Drop-off
Once we had concluded our roadtrip, we returned the vehicle to Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport again. In general, the drop-off process was very smooth.
Problems
We did not have any mechanical issues. The car ran the entire time perfectly.
The only slight issue we had was when we dropped off the vehicle. As we had been driving on many smaller roads, the vehicle was properly dusty. Additionally, some bushes had left their mark on the exterior. These weren’t scratches but only markings in the dust. However, for some time, the staff tried to tell us that these might be scratches and that they would likely have to charge us for the damage. In the end, they cleaned the vehicle and sent us back our full deposit, though.
Summary
For us, Car One Rental Belize was an excellent choice for our Belize roadtrip. We put the car through quite a lot, but it held up perfectly fine without any mechanical problems. Additionally, the pick-up and drop-off directly at the airport was highly convenient.
